So-called designer drugs are produced in illegal underground laboratories using 'recipes' passed on through the grapevine or over the internet. The chemical structures of certain chemicals or drugs are deliberately changed, by 'design', to avoid prosecution under existing drug laws.
Because there is little or no control on the quality of these drugs, they can be highly dangerous.
